Saif Ali Khan will make his debut as a producer this month when Love Aaj Kal is released.
The film - meaning love today and tomorrow - is the first developed through his Illuminati Films, which Khan set up earlier this year.
"I have worked in the industry for the last 18 years," The AFP quote him as saying. "Now I want to do something different and therefore I am producing films.
"I want to be creatively satisfied as an actor, therefore I am putting in my money in projects that I believe in."
Anil Kapoor of Slumdog Millionaire fame recently made his production debut with Short Kut: The Con is On, while Kareena Kapoor is rumoured to be in negotiations to buy the rights to a French film.
Meanwhile, Arshad Warsi chose to produce his own project after he failed to get commercial backing through the normal channels. "When I went to producers nobody was willing to touch it," he said. "So, I felt it was better to produce my own film and act in it."
