On July 8, the Middlesex University, London felicitated A R Rahman with an honorary doctorate for his contribution to music.
Rahman’s KM Music Conservatory in Chennai, along with Middlesex University, have plans to develop an Academic Articulation for the Bachelor of Arts Honours Programmed for Music Composition and Music Performance.
A Middlesex University degree is a three year semester for which KMC plans to explore the possibility of offering the first two years of the Middlesex Programme at the KM Music Conservatory in Chennai while the final year will take place at the Middlesex University in London.
In his acceptance speech to the University’s academics and students, AR Rahman thanked the University and said, "It is an enormous honour to belong to this great seat of learning. My journey as a musician started at the age of nine and I see music as a way to connect to spirituality and embrace it. Music touches people and breaks down barriers, creating harmony in troubled times. This has always been my philosophy."
This is not all the recent awards being showered on the little musical man from Madras.
Another doctorate from the Madras University is coming his way soon is what we hear from a birdie. When he is back in Chennai, there will be more to celebrate.
