There are striking Similarities between Hollywood’s 2008 animated blockbuster Kung Fu Panda and Akshay Kumar starrer Chandni Chowk to China.
Our source tells us, "Chandni Chowk to China (CCTC) is Kung Fu Panda (KFP) meets Bollywood! In both the movies, the main character feels like a loser who must fulfill his destiny by rising to the occasion and fighting the demons that threaten to destroy an empire."
He further adds, "In Kung Fu Panda, the main character who is a panda voiced by Jack Black is a cook. Similarly, in CCTC Akshay plays Sidhu who is also a cook. In KFP, Po leaves his hometown to pursue his dreams and in CCTC, Sidhu leaves Delhi to pursue his dreams in China. They both overcome their weaknesses and become martial arts experts when they reach their destinations. Also, both movies are based in China with Kung Fu and royalty.”
“Moreover, the potato slicing scene shown in the trailer of CCTC is very similar to all the vegetable slicing in KFP. The only difference is that CCTC is a live action film and has a lead heroine who is Sidhu’s love interest and Kung Fu is animated without any love angle to it."
Producer Rohan Sippy says, "I haven’t seen Kung Fu Panda but the stories do sound very similar. Anyways, CCTC was written three years ago and is based in modern day China. So, I think it is just a co-incidence."
