A heady mix of drama, comedy, espionage thriller and a rock musical is on the Bollywood platter this Friday. Here, we help you decide what’s worth your time.
As many as four films will hit the marquee this weekend. Though none of them is a big-budget, potential blockbuster with a megastar at helm, all The four films have something unique to offer.
ROCK ON
Rock On is the film which the young yuppies of Gen X should catch. So far what we saw of rock music in Bollywood are the odd likes of Salman Khan (in Jaaneman ) or Sanjay Dutt (in Woodstock Villa ) holding the guitar as if it was a broom and not a musical instrument, and head-banging as if they were ridding selves of migraine. Here’s ‘Rock On’, a film in which every single actor not just looks like a rockstar but even learnt to play the instrument or sing, much like the way Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon learnt to sing and play for the Oscar nominated musical ‘Walk the Line’.
Starring Farhan Akhtar , Arjun Rampal , Luke Kenny and Purab Kohli, the movie promises to rock you, roll you, and captivate you with its fervour.
CHAMKU
Now, the title of this movie may be a little off-putting, but Chamku promises two-plus hours of gripping drama revolving around a protagonist with a troubled past. The movie is directed by Kabeer Kaushik , who, if you remember, directed the hard-hitting cops-n-gangsters tale Sehar a few years back.
‘Chamku’ has Bobby Deol playing an orphan raised by Naxalites but used by government for its covert operations. Priyanka Chopra plays his love interest who gives Chamku’s life a new meaning.
MUKHBIR
So confident are the makers of Mukhbir about its appeal that they have offered to return your ticket money if you don’t like the film. Of course, the offer comes with strings attached, and not everyone, but a selected few hundreds, who hate the film will get their money back.
Anyway, coming to the film, it, as the title suggests, tells the tale of an informer who penetrates the underworld network to pinch out crucial information that could save thousands of lives.
The film’s makers claim that ‘Mukhbir’ is the first true-blue movie that explores the connection between espionage and underworld. The movie stars Sammir Dattani , Om Puri , Sunil Shetty , Rahul Dev and Sushant Singh .
C KKOMPANY
Lastly, if you happen to be in jolly mood and want to catch something light and frothy, let C Kkompany be your choice. Though we don’t guarantee that the movie will be as funny as it promises to be, given the comic flairs of Tusshar Kapoor , Anupam Kher and Rajpal Yadav , the film might just turn out to be an enjoyable watch. The trio play three losers who become modern-day Robinhoods by a mere twist of fate.
Let’s wait and see what twist fate takes for these four movies in the coming weekend.
