A Muslim child with Asperger Syndrome grows up in downtown Mumbai with his mother. When a young man, Rizwan Khan (Shahrukh Khan) falls in love with and marries a Hindu woman Mandira (Kajol), who is a single mother living in San Francisco.
But after 9/11, Rizwan’s physical clumsiness and atypical use of language (visible signs of Asperger Syndrome) are viewed by the US authorities as suspicious behaviour. Though innocent, Rizwan is detained as a terror suspect. Rizwan not just fights for justice, he begins a unique journey to meet the US president to clear his name.
Based partly on a true story of a Muslim couple in the US, ‘My Name Is Khan’ is directed and co-produced by Karan Johar.
