She has modelled for Surily Goel, Manish Malhotra’s one time assistant. Deepika, an ardent Manish fan makes it a point to be at his prominent shows in Mumbai.

Of course, this wasn’t always the case. Deepika, a student of Mount Carmel was once told her shoulders were too broad. Then in her eleventh grade, Deepika opted out of the audition for the college’s fashion team.
Over the next one year, she gave up badminton - the cause for her broad shoulders - and moulded her body to suit a fashion model rather than an athlete.
If sources are to be believed, Deepika Padukone never returned to audition for the college again. She started getting modelling offers and a completely new world opened for her.
But perhaps the biggest assignment came with the Kingfisher Swimsuit calendar. The elite calendar shot by Atul Kasbekar also launched her into a completely new league of models.
Atul Kasbekar had once predicted her meteoric rise in Bollywood. About four years after his prediction, Deepika Padukone has indeed become the most bankable name in the film industry today.
